Episode 78. Grand Horn

It was the same.

Of course, since Grandel wasn’t a professional appraiser, he couldn’t do a detailed appraisal, but at least the grades of the two potions appraised by appraisal magic were the same.

Middle class.

The potions that were quickly made were intermediate level, and the potions that took time to make were also intermediate level.

Then isn’t the answer out there?

“The faster the better.”

The results were shocking.

Even though I clearly saw it with my own two eyes, I still couldn’t believe it.

“You will all graduate from the academy and choose a career that suits your path. In the process, you will make a lot of potions. At that time, you will be divided into two groups: those who take my class and can make potions quickly, and those who take a long time. You will become magicians who can make high-quality potions quickly.”

gulp.

I heard someone swallowing.

It was so shocking that everyone was speechless.

“Grandel.”

“Yes, sir.”

“It was a great feeling.”

“… … !”

Grandel smiled bashfully, probably not expecting to be praised.

“Who is that guy?”

“Teacher! I can use emotional magic too!”

The students no longer thought of Ethan as a new teacher.

No, I didn’t even think of him as a swordsmanship teacher.

He was a great wizard, no, a tremendous wizard.

With that kind of knowledge, you would definitely catch Ethan’s eye.

Certainly, the students in the magic department had a different atmosphere from the students in the swordsmanship department.

‘You’re very studious. Very much so. You seem to be interested in making potions, but you seem to be particularly interested in the line I showed you, Brûlée.’

And there were also students who seemed to be revisiting how Ethan drew the magic circle.

‘It’s fun. It’s a different way of teaching.’

In particular, I, Grandel, was a student who could be put to good use in class.

The reaction is good and it’s even lively.

‘I can hire you as my assistant.’

“Today’s lesson is this Brûlé. I’ll teach you how to make potions quickly using Brûlé. Of course, it’ll be difficult to use Fireball with two lines and a 2-equation like me right away. This lesson is about making potions.”

Ethan said.

“How to make potions quickly with Brûlée, I will teach you this first-class Brûlée for sure.”

* * *

What had happened in the swordsmanship department was also happening in the magic department.

“Grandel. Tell me.”

“What the heck? Why do you keep reacting like this?”

“You’re just trying to tease us right now, right? Are you?”

“You said you couldn’t beat anyone else in potion making skills. Today was actually your first proper class, right?”

“What did you learn?”

The students of the Faculty of Magic who had talked to Grandel the other day asked him with anticipation.

Of course, what they were expecting wasn’t that Ethan’s class was amazing.

There was no teacher who spoke so confidently who was a proper teacher.

“You must have taught me something great since you spoke so grandly.”

“No way! You didn’t teach carelessly like other teachers because you didn’t want to show off your skills, right?”

“But what? Even if they teach you something about potion making, isn’t it all obvious? If you make good ingredients over a long period of time, you’ll end up with something good anyway.”

As students of the Faculty of Magic, they all had considerable knowledge and experience in making potions.

That’s why I knew even better. No matter who teaches you how to make potions, it’s all the same.

Even if you say you’ll teach me something great, I’m telling you to use good materials, which is the same old story.

Suddenly Grandel opened his mouth.

“You guys. How do you use Fire Ball?”

“What are you talking about? All of a sudden.”

“How do you use it!”

When Grandel shouted, the upper class students looked at him in surprise.

They had expressions like, “What’s wrong with this kid?” but soon opened their mouths and spoke.

“Use it as a 4-way equation.”

“I use the 3rd equation.”

“You’re not using the 3rd equation either, are you, Grandel? But why are you suddenly asking me this?”

Grandel clicked his tongue.

I’ve just experienced something in class that’s hard to believe even if I tell it to them. It was obvious that they wouldn’t believe me if I told them.

“Do you know who my grandfather is?”

“How could you not know? When you say Hongryeon, your grandfather’s name comes up first.”

The Great Wizard of Red Lotus.

As the name suggests, Grandel’s grandfather was a master of fire magic and a wizard among wizards called the Grand Wizard.

His grandfather could use something like Fireball without a spear.

Because the skill itself is such that the magic circle line is not necessary.

“When I heard the explanation of that theory, I could see my grandfather overlapping. It was the same back then. I couldn’t understand it in detail, but I instinctively knew that it was something great. You guys know that too, right? Something like that.”

A chill ran down Grandel’s spine as he recalled the lesson from earlier.

“What on earth did you hear?”

“Brûlée.”

Grandel told Ethan about the Brûlée he had heard about in his class and the potion making he had mixed with it.

It was a completely new potion recipe that broke all previous common sense.

It was such an incredible amount of content that I wondered if it was really possible to learn something like this in an academy.

“Nonsense.”

“You’re making a potion like that? If you make it like that, it’ll turn out to be a mess.”

“No, if that’s really possible, shouldn’t you be announcing this to the Magic Society? Why are you teaching that here!”

As Grandel explained, this wasn’t something that Ibeka’s teacher could simply solve.

It was a great theory that could be recognized as Ethan’s theory if it were formally announced at the Magic Academy.

Of course they didn’t know.

Ethan can’t make it official.

“But it turned out just as the teacher said. There was no difference between taking the time and using the Brûlé magic to make it quickly. I confirmed it with my appraisal magic, so I’m sure of it.”

Everyone became dumbfounded.

What is a potion?

Isn’t it something that takes time to make? If you make it quickly, isn’t it something that doesn’t have the proper effect?

At least that’s what the potions I’ve learned so far have been like.

“Even when I was learning from a private tutor, I was told that it would take a long time.”

“I did that too. And I didn’t just hear about it, I actually tried it.”

The students simply could not believe Grandel’s words.

In the midst of the momentary silence, heavy breathing was heard.

“Whew. Whoosh.”

The practice room they are currently in is one that is shared between the College of Magic and the College of Knights.

The practice rooms for the two departments were attached to a building that was specifically built for practice.

A student covered in sweat, as if he had just finished training, was looking this way.

“Mason Yellowd.”

“Grandel Toph.”

A celebrity in swordsmanship and a celebrity in magic locked eyes.

They both knew well what each other was called in their respective departments.

It was no coincidence that Mason passed by here. Even though I told him to keep my voice low, Mason heard it.

A story about Mr. Ethan Wickers.

Grandel also looked at Mason and remembered that he was taking Mr. Ethan’s class.

They made eye contact and nodded once.

The two rascals taking Mr. Ethan’s class were sharing emotions they had never felt before since entering the academy.

“Were you two close?”

“no.”

Grandel shook his head.

“Just something. Something like that. Just like that.”

“I think I’ve regressed because of the shocking class I took, Grandel. Can I listen to this extra class? It would be a loss if I don’t listen to it now.”

“I would never open it, Mr. Ethan. It’s so scary. I feel like if I say the wrong thing, I could get cut out of class.”

At Ibeca Academy, teachers rarely drop students from class.

As long as the students are of a reasonable standard, they won’t be cut unless they cause trouble.

But somehow, I had a feeling that if I made even the slightest mistake in Ethan’s class, I would get cut.

“It’s completely frozen.”

As he said that, Grandel stood up from his seat.

“Where are you going? We’re supposed to have some Cran Grutyr wine tonight.”

“You guys eat amongst yourselves. I have to go practice. We don’t have any observation classes. We have no classes next week. Then the next class is the test.”

It was midterms week, so there was no time to rest.

The only thing on Grandel’s mind right now was Brûlé.

If you don’t master this Brûlée and use it to make potions, you won’t be able to get the best grade in the next class.

“If you fail the midterm, you won’t be able to learn how to use Brûlée any more. I said I would only teach it to those who got good grades.”

Everyone blankly watched Grandel’s back as he ran away in a hurry.

Something was changing.

By new teacher Ethan Wickers.

* * *

That night.

Ethan was moving through the darkness again.

‘I have a lot of memories of achieving great things at the Academy.’

In particular, the most common thing I did was to create achievements.

The mountain behind the academy.

‘Like most academies, it has one huge mountain in its midst.’

I remembered Ibekah’s school song.

‘I remember. We were growing up by receiving Grand Horn’s energy, right?’

Like most schools, Ibeka was also a school that received energy from Grandhorn, the mountain behind it.

‘There are many mountains and rivers here, you know.’

Ethan smiled and entered the Grand Horn.

This Grandhorn was located within the Marquisate of Ronde, but its size was so enormous that it extended far beyond the Marquisate.

I heard that the Marquis once tried to subdue the monsters within this Grandhorn in order to completely eliminate the threat to Ibeka Academy, but ended up dying instead.

The monsters of Grand Horn were that powerful.

‘And they don’t leave their own territory very often.’

It was a characteristic possessed by the monsters of Grand Horn.

Since they were monsters guarding the area, they didn’t come down the mountain very often.

‘That’s why, even though the expedition failed, you didn’t continue to challenge.’

But still, at least the minimum equipment was in place.

[Danger! This is the Golden Wolf’s territory ahead]

[Danger! This is the realm of the White Tiger, the King of the Mountains]

It was a sign.

It is said that an artifact was once installed, but the monsters in the mountain would not leave it alone.

So, we had no choice but to install this sign.

The sign is made this large, meaning it is the fault of the person entering.

“It’s ironic. These powerful monsters are located in the back mountain of Ibeka Academy, which should be the safest place.”

Of course, it wasn’t an ordinary back mountain.

Ethan turned off in the opposite direction of where the sign was pointing.

I didn’t come here to catch those powerful monsters in the first place.

‘I can’t do those small named monster achievements right now.’

The blue wolf and the mountain king, the white tiger. These two are fighting over the position of the owner of the Grand Horn.

These two beasts were fighting even when the Ibeka Academy fell and the Moon Followers were trying to enter this Grandhorn.

‘Of course, the Moon Followers killed them all.’

Until then, Grand Horn had been a place ruled by monsters for quite some time.

‘I don’t know what happens after that.’

Ethan took a deep breath, the hero’s breath energizing his entire body.

Today, Ethan came to hunt a monster that was slightly above the middle of the Grandhorn food chain.

“Because I have to do 75 rounds of sparring.”

I spoke to the students leisurely, but it wasn’t easy.

Even though I’ve greatly improved my stamina by using my job growth and stat stones, that doesn’t mean that the 20 duels will be easy.

“Since the physical stat originally had a limit, you can increase it further by opening up the stat stone.”

That’s exactly why I came here.
