Episode 7. Preceding Achievements
‘If there was a talent I could get as an escort right now… … .’
Ethan began to mentally select the men he could get. The more men the better, but the first thing he needed was men who could act as bodyguards.
‘The King of Mercenaries may not have been the King of Mercenaries at the time, but he was already a famous mercenary. Then he wouldn’t have come as the escort of a mere count’s eldest son.’
If I was going to hire someone as my bodyguard, it had to be someone I could work with properly in the future. In other words, not only had to be a person with good character, but once I swore loyalty to him, he had to be someone who would absolutely keep that loyalty.
‘No matter how strong someone is, if they have a bad personality, they’re a good candidate for a hit on the back of the head.’
Ethan crossed off the list one by one, matching the current time period. After crossing off the names, only one person remained.
‘Yerika. Granddaughter of the Archmage Hecate.’
Hecate, the great magician who ruled the continent, was one of the best 8th circle magicians on the continent, but died as an enemy of the continent.
‘I said it was because I was overly obsessed with magic.’
There were rumors like that in the world, but the reality was different.
If you enter the Magic Tower and become a student studying Hecate’s magic, you will be able to hear the story about Hecate’s stigma and gain a clue about it.
And if you follow that clue and follow Hecate’s trail, you will find out.
That Hecate was killed unjustly.
‘It’s no different from being intentionally assassinated by three noble families belonging to the Twelve Stars.’
There were those who bore the stigma and endured the aftermath.
She was the granddaughter of Hecate’s only daughter.
Hecate’s granddaughter, Yereka, inherited Hecate’s talents and possessed the genius ability to understand and make any magic her own after seeing it just three times.
However, after Hecate’s death, she suffered a terrible fate. She was labeled the child of a sinner and was imprisoned with her mother, with a spell of binding written on her body.
In the process, her mother dies, and Yeerika is lucky enough to escape with some of the binding spells removed.
‘Of course you’re dreaming of revenge.’
She is probably currently living in hiding in the dark forest.
He will still be weak as he has not yet fully removed the binding spell and has not yet dealt with the poison and curse that limits his magical power.
But there was one problem.
‘The Dark Forest is a little far from the Earldom.’
I wonder if I can go in this physical condition.
But Ethan soon made up his mind.
“Still, it’s much better than the escort you can get around here. For the moment, and even more so for the future.”
If she could just use magic right now, she would be a top-level magician, and if she were to awaken properly as the granddaughter of a great magician, she would become a great magician no less than Hecate.
They were much better suited as escorts than sword-wielding inspectors.
“If there’s a problem, it’s that Yeerika doesn’t trust anyone, but there’s a way to fix that.”
I already had a plan in my head on how to win her over.
There’s a reason I cleared this board more than 10 times.

Ethan was about to leave for Florence, a city some distance from the county.
But I couldn’t leave quietly.
“Are you sure you’re okay?”
“The Count asked you to come with us.”
“We will all join together, Your Majesty.”
“No, the whole order of knights is coming, Commander. Calm down. It’s okay. You can walk now.”
An escort was needed, but it wasn’t necessary for the entire Order to come.
After some struggling, Ethan chose one of the knights.
‘I can’t go alone at all.’
He would never send me alone anyway, and he needed an escort that could be used immediately just in case.
‘Then this person is the best.’
“Please take care of me! Your Majesty! This is Schudlen Mark.”
Schudlen Mark.
In the future, he will be the strongest knight of the Count Wickus family and the bodyguard of Nathan Wickus. He is a new knight now, but in a few years, he will become a knight whose influence cannot be ignored.
‘If you recruit Nathan Wickers as a partner, he’ll come with you.’
Ethan also remembered using this Shudlen well as a subordinate.
‘But right now, I’m just a newbie. In short, I haven’t decided where my loyalty will go yet.’
If so, it is quite possible to turn that loyalty towards yourself.
He’s not an incredibly great person, but he’s someone who can do the job of one person.
He asked with the same enthusiasm as a newbie.
“May I ask why you are going out? I will prepare accordingly!”
“You don’t have to prepare so complicatedly. Just do your best to protect me.”
Even though he was wearing good armor, his body was still weak.
When encountering a strong enemy, Shudlen must block it.
“I will do my best.”
‘I guess I should tell you that I’m going to the Dark Forest once I get closer.’
If I tell you now, you’ll be scared.
* * *
Ethan took Shudlen to the magic tool shop.
It was to buy the necessary materials.
“welcome!”
“Do you have a subspace pocket?”
“Ah! You came at a perfect time. There are only two left. As you know, subspace pouches are expensive, but they are worth it. Even though they come in frequently, they sell out quickly!”
The subspace pouch was originally an item that increased inventory space by about ten spaces.
But now that we have no inventory, it was a valuable artifact that could serve as a small inventory.
“It’s 100,000 gold.”
“100,000 gold? I know the market price.”
“You know the market price exactly. That’s right. 100,000 gold. I’m giving this to you cheaply as well.”
“No. No. Wasn’t it around 110,000 gold?”
Ethan chuckled and added 10,000 more gold.
“Uh huh.”
“There’s something else I’d like to ask you. I’d also like to hear some information.”
It wasn’t just the workshop owner who was embarrassed.
The escort, Shudlen, also looked at Ethan with a puzzled expression.
It felt like this wasn’t the Ethan I knew.
The way he acted as if he had a lot of experience dealing with people was a far cry from the Ethan he knew.
But the workshop owner quickly understood what Ethan was saying. He quickly took the gold and spoke with a kinder smile than before.
“Big. What are you looking for?”
“Silver chrysanthemum.”
“There is a limited amount of silver available. And it is a bit difficult to obtain right now.”
“Is it difficult to get supplies?”
Ethan tilted his head.
Silverweed becomes a difficult herb to obtain at some point. But not now. It probably won’t be that difficult to obtain right now.
You need silver sapphires to make a magic nullification potion. Hecate’s granddaughter, Yeerika, was under a binding spell and could not use mana properly, so she had to be fed the potion.
The workshop owner’s expression darkened slightly.
“That’s actually… … .”
“What’s going on?”
Ethan’s speech also changed naturally.
“There’s someone who monopolizes the silver coins. As you may know, this back alley is completely controlled by a guy named Granol. Then, that guy suddenly started buying up the silver coins and swept them all away. I tried to refuse, but I couldn’t stand his threats.”
‘Oh my.’
Ethan’s eyes lit up.
‘The back alley gangs are trying to mess with the silver coins.’
Among the achievements were those related to good deeds.
It was an achievement that could be cleared by dealing with those with evil tendencies.
‘I haven’t even completed all the prerequisite achievements yet.’
Every achievement had an end, but strangely enough, there was no end to good deeds.
Even though he had decided to do good deeds from beginning to end and had cleared the stage while earning the nickname of the Saint of the Lowlies, his good deeds were not over.
‘It’s a good thing in many ways.’
“What are they planning to do with this silver coin?”
“Well, from what I heard… … .”
The workshop owner said that it seemed like they were making poison from silver moss.
He added a word while doing so.
“You obviously don’t have the technology to make poison. That’s strange.”
‘Is that it?’
Ethan immediately thought of a quest.
It was a major event called the Silver Flower Gate, the beginning of a quest that shook the continent.
‘There was a time when a famous poison magician intentionally released poison techniques to conduct various experiments.’
Poison Magician. His real name is Poison King.
He sprinkled his poison technology to perfect the poison he created, and with the experience he gained from it, he created an incredible poison.
Moreover, he even took the princess of the Holy Kingdom hostage by feeding her the poison.
His goal was the kingdom’s treasure, the Divine Blade.
‘Then the achievement score will go up quite a bit.’
Ethan smiled and said to the workshop owner.
“Then the silver coin is fine. I’ll get it myself.”
* * *
“Your Majesty. Are you going to the back alley gang?”
“I’m thinking about that. Just in case, make sure to guard me well. There’s nothing more meaningless than dying from a sharp sword.”
“I can definitely escort you! But there’s no reason for you to go to such a dangerous place! Those back-alley guys have nothing to lose. They fear the nobles outside, but if someone enters their territory, they’ll definitely do something without thinking!”
“Probably so.”
Ethan nodded graciously.
“Then why, why are you going?”
Although he was a new knight, he was not full of heroism or tried to show off his chivalry by becoming a knight.
That’s why I couldn’t understand Ethan’s actions.
This was not the County of Wickers, nor was there any grudge against the back alleys of Florence.
“Is there a reason to do good deeds?”
‘I’ll get likes by completing achievements.’
Ethan was just trying to break the record.
But when he heard that, Schudlen looked shocked.
“ah…….”
Schudlen made a sound as if he had realized something briefly.
Who would have thought Confucius would have such thoughts?
I had forgotten about it until now.
Wasn’t the knight he once wanted to be one who did good and tried to help the weak?
A knight is someone who has no hesitation in doing good.
Shudlen bowed deeply as he looked at Ethan, who was much more knightly than he was.
“I will serve you, Your Majesty.”
Ethan unintentionally gained Schudlen’s loyalty.
* * *
As the nobleman Ethan and Shudlen, who looked like a knight from any angle, entered the back alley, the thugs there quietly retreated.
Schudlen looked at Ethan. From what he said, Ethan seemed to have quite a bit of heroism.
Then I’ll try to deal with this back alley gang.
He didn’t let his guard down because he had to step forward at that moment.
The moment Ethan stepped into the alley, the gang stood on guard and drew their weapons.
Then Ethan spoke calmly.
“I’m just walking down the street. If you don’t touch me, I won’t touch you.”
Schudlen was surprised.
Ethan responded calmly, his heroism gone.
Ethan whispered to him.
“Just hit the head. There’s no need to see blood.”
I could feel the experience. It was almost as if I was seeing a veteran who had been a mercenary for 10 years.
“Yes, your highness.”
Something was different.
He was different from the people of the Whikers family that he knew. He saw something much greater in Ethan than he had once felt in Nathan.
Of course, Ethan had no intention of catching the rascals.
‘You need to catch the big ones to get the achievement faster.’
