Episode 57. Understanding the Sword
Connor Randy, the only teacher among the new recruits who joined the fencing department last year and did not retire, did not look too happy.
“Phew, I managed to hold out for a year.”
The swordsmanship and students were extremely difficult to deal with. This was because all the skilled swordsmen leading the swordsmanship department were children of high-ranking noble families.
Connor himself had rarely been in such a difficult situation before coming to Ibeka.
Although he was not from Ibeka, he graduated with excellent grades, beating out all the other academies.
Only after gaining experience for a year in a renowned knighthood was he able to be hired as a teacher in Ibeka.
The fact that he became Ibeka’s teacher was proof of Connor’s abilities.
But even that corner was too difficult to deal with for the upper-class students of Ibeka’s swordsmanship department.
“Mason and his group are too difficult. Ha, what should I do? This time, the understanding of the sword path is going to be a big problem. Even Mr. Shiron would have a hard time handling this class, but he’s leaving it to Mr. Ethan, a new teacher.”
Corner hoped these new teachers wouldn’t leave.
Last year, he was given a lot of work to do because all his colleagues left.
Additionally, since there were no first- or second-year teachers, I had to foster friendships with teachers with many years of experience, who were difficult to deal with.
‘I’m saying it’s uncomfortable.’
Corner needed a colleague of similar age and seniority.
“You must have had a really hard day today. I really need to help you.”
Mental care is something you can take care of yourself.
If you give them some tips and help, they will definitely be able to endure it.
Since he is the top student, he probably isn’t that weak.
“It’ll probably be over soon, right?”
Corner found Classroom 1, where the Understanding of the Sword classroom was located.
Pfft-!
Connor, who was waiting in front of the classroom, heard a strange sound.
“What is that sound of hitting something? There’s no way something like that would happen in the first class.”
Most classes are not held on the first day of class.
Didn’t you also finish your first class quickly?
“Sir, did a fight break out? Those damn guys didn’t hit the new teacher, did they!?”
They are such scoundrels that if a teacher comes at them harshly, they will take it on. Even if a problem arises, they can use their family’s power to make it seem like nothing happened.
Connor looked urgently out the window.
“uh?”
The sight outside the window was shocking.
A scene unfolding in the classroom that made even Connor, the swordsman and teacher, stare blankly.
* * *
So far, the intimidation of new teachers has happened twice since Chen entered school.
Chen, who entered as a freshman, met Mason, the eldest son of the Duke family.
Mason was a sophisticated man, to the point where you could almost say he was classy just by looking at him.
In addition to the special aura he gave off, the fact that he was the successor to the Duke’s family made him feel like he was from another world.
Chen was chosen by Mason.
Mason accepted Chen into his group, and Chen became Mason’s action leader.
They harassed unqualified new teachers and caused them to resign from their teaching positions.
This time it’s the same.
‘He is unqualified.’
Now that Mason has branded him like that, Ethan Wickers can no longer be a part of this academy.
Just as he was trying to slowly scratch the surface, the new teacher fell for his provocation and the situation was set.
The Garcia family’s swordsmanship is simple.
Although simplicity was both an advantage and a disadvantage, as a person from the Garcia family who was born physically strong, he was able to rise to a fairly high position with this swordsmanship.
Chen intended to ‘accidentally’ hurt the pretentious teacher. Breaking one of his arms would be enough.
The goal is to undermine the teacher’s authority.
The opponent is a teacher, so I can’t hurt him. If I do, the Garcia family won’t stay still.
There is also limited mana there.
Outside of the academy, it may be different, but inside the academy, only a limited amount of mana is allowed.
That’s why they’ve been successfully trampling on teachers up until now.
‘Where did you get the courage to be a local noble?’
Are they going to teach themselves when they are not even qualified to teach?
You need to know fractions.
Chen swung his sword with all his might.
“The swordsmanship you learned probably all has a set path. You swing your sword along that path.”
Ethan’s eyes lit up. Chen thought he was startled.
But it wasn’t.
Pfft-!
“Ugh!”
“You guys are just imitating.”
In that moment, Ethan lightly stepped to the side to avoid Chen’s attack, then swung his sword and struck Chen’s shoulder.
Pfft! Pfft!
And then he hit the thigh and side in succession.
It was a sword so fast it was invisible.
“Because mana is supplementing your swordsmanship. Half, no, seventy percent. The rest is your power to wield.”
Students who thought they would be badly hurt by the first attack watched the two sparring in surprise.
“profit!”
Chen, angry, swung his sword again.
Chen’s sword was clearly a real sword, but Ethan hadn’t even drawn it.
Normally, he would have used a wooden sword, but since Ethan didn’t say anything, he just used his own sword.
Chen, excited, swung his sword with the intention of not just breaking the arm, but cutting it off.
“Look. I’m not following the path of the sword. I’m just practicing the swordsmanship that I’m used to. I’ll show you how big of a difference that makes.”
Ethan took a small step forward and spun around, this time without even using his sword.
Bam-!
“I’m being dragged along by the sword. My body isn’t strong enough.”
“Kkaaaaaaaaaah-!”
“The body must lead the sword, not mana. Mana plays a supporting role.”
Ethan grabbed Chen by the collar as he screamed and tried to step back. He then quickly pulled him towards him and stepped back.
“Train your body. Don’t be swayed by the sword. You’ve probably heard it enough times. But as you train your mana and swordsmanship, you’ve probably forgotten everything you’ve heard before.”
Before we knew it, the students were concentrating on what Ethan was saying.
“From now on, I will teach you how to follow the path of the sword accurately. I will teach you how not to be swayed by the sword. I will show you what it means to practice swordsmanship along the path of the sword.”
Chen was being educated by Ethan.
Although it seemed like he was handling a toy, whenever Chen swung his sword, Ethan struck Chen’s shoulder and thigh areas with precision, changing Chen’s posture.
Correcting your posture.
He is correcting the sword path of the Garcia sword technique he uses by intentionally hitting the shoulders, thighs, and waist.
Among the swordsmanship students here, there is not a single one who is lacking in swordsmanship.
He is here because of his outstanding swordsmanship skills and understanding, as well as his family’s high-level swordsmanship.
Yet they were caught up in Ethan’s movements.
There is no one here who does not know Chen Garcia’s swordsmanship.
But the new teacher is different. Although he clearly doesn’t know Chen’s swordsmanship, he looks at him and judges him as if he knows, and corrects his posture.
“Nonsense.”
“Is that possible?”
“I think this is the first time you’ve seen Chen’s swordsmanship.”
It was even more relatable because they were swordsmen and students.
They had no choice but to realize.
That Ethan Wickers has incredible skills.
“Ugh!”
But Chen couldn’t hold out any longer.
Chen’s shoulder was hit directly in the shoulder and was dislocated.
It couldn’t be helped since I was putting in a lot of effort.
“What did you do! Did you just hurt a student!”
“Is that what a teacher does? Hurt a student!”
The students surrounding Mason jumped up as if they had been waiting and shouted.
Ethan looked at his student, leaving Chen in distress.
His eyes were as cold as ice. Furthermore, Ethan’s eyes, which had a sickly undertone, contained a sense of sadness.
When those two things came together, there was a moment of fear in his eyes.
The students who had been standing up quickly averted their eyes. It was because they felt like something would happen if they continued to look.
“I’m in class now.”
Ethan’s eyes were fierce.
“And who got hurt?”
Ethan approached the distressed Chen and pushed in his dislocated shoulder.
“Are you okay?”
Of course, Chen’s pain was severe, but it was difficult to see that he was injured anywhere.
But this is just a play on words.
“Besides, it seems like everyone is listening to my class diligently, and you guys are causing a big disturbance.”
“Oh, no, when.”
Ethan’s brief practical lesson seemed to have been quite stimulating to the other students, and soon some of them were writing down what Ethan said.
Normally, they wouldn’t even be able to look at themselves like this, but they were all looking at themselves with slightly frowning expressions, interrupting Ethan’s class.
When Mason tapped the desk twice with his index finger, those who had been standing sat down awkwardly. For a moment, Ethan and Mason’s eyes met.
Ethan looked at Mason and gave him a faint smile. That alone would be a great provocation to Mason.
I’ve seen a lot of that kind of stuff in other academies in Mephans. Besides, Ethan knows a lot about Mason, even if he doesn’t know the details.
Since you have all the information, it’s very easy to control it.
“Chen Garcia, I think this is enough practical training. Do you understand now? My understanding of the sword will be taught in this way.”
Ethan shrugged as he looked at Chen, who was kneeling in pain.
Chen’s face was stained with tears.
It was a natural thing.
Because Ethan didn’t show any consideration while setting the bones.
‘This bone-aligning technique was originally a torture technique.’
-I’ve learned a new skill!
-I learned [Bone Muscle Control].
Ethan smiled to himself as he looked at the notification window. It was a skill he had been using a lot, but he never knew when it would appear.
‘It’s a skill that you can’t learn unless you completely master it, no matter how many times you do it.’
Thanks to the knowledge in my head, I was able to learn core techniques that I could use well after a few attempts.
Thinking about it that way, Chen Garcia seemed quite grateful. He was giving the ugly guy an extra piece of rice cake, so much so that I was thinking of taking off one more arm and putting it back in.
‘I couldn’t learn other skills because of the circumstances, but this is absolutely necessary to work at the academy.’
This bone muscle control will be effective not only in class but also in various other places.
Ethan looked down at Chen.
He may be acting like he’s the real power behind Ibeka Academy, but he’s still a student.
He leaned down and whispered to Chen.
“The pain is temporary, Chen Garcia. Over time, the pain will go away and only the shame will remain. When that happens, think about where the shame came from. Once you know that, come to class next week.”
There is still a period during which you can change your course registration.
Ethan was deliberately provocative.
‘It’s good if there are at least one more student.’
That’s how you gain fame.
“That concludes my first lesson. Anyone have any questions?”
I gave them a moment to think about it, but there was only silence in the classroom.
Ethan declared with a smile.
“None. Then I guess we’ll end today’s class here.”
