Episode 16. Clear the Quest
When I first started out as a mepanist, I first tried anything I could.
Wherever I went, there were many strange things, and I felt fun every time I uncovered those strange things, so I was curious about suspicious things or suspicious places.
And if there were monsters I saw for the first time, I definitely went there.
When I went to places like that, I used to look for things like hidden dungeons or treasure chests.
So, after clearing the first round, I quickly gained good things from the second round by utilizing the abundant knowledge I gained from the first round.
But from the third time onwards, the method was changed.
It’s true that the clear time has been shortened, but it’s because it’s become too easy and not fun anymore.
That’s why there were many cases where people played without getting it on purpose in order to increase the difficulty on their own.
But this time there was no need for that. No, it shouldn’t have been that way.
I had to take whatever I could get.
If it helps at all, definitely!
It’s about increasing the difficulty on your own when your life is guaranteed.
Ethan, who arrived at the cabin where Yeorika lived, opened his eyes wide and started collecting all the herbs around there.
I gathered everything up without leaving anything behind.
Anything with even the slightest medicinal effect was placed in the subspace pocket without regard to its origin or origin.
“oh.”
Certainly, there were many pretty good herbs in the Dark Forest.
There were many types of moss, and there were also effective sap coming from mushrooms and trees.
These essences, when stored in glass bottles, could be conveniently used when making potions or herbal medicines.
We focused on collecting for about twenty minutes without saying a word.
When Yeorika looked at Ethan with a strange look, Shudlen smiled and explained.
“You are a thrifty person.”
Only after the gathering was over was Ethan able to enter the cabin with Yerika.
When we went inside, there were quite a few things. There was something like a jar on the floor, and Ethan picked it up and broke it without realizing it.
Clang!
“What are you doing?”
Yeorika asks with a frown.
Ethan apologized with an apologetic expression.
“I’m sorry. I touched it without knowing.”
There is always something inside the jar. Usually money or various consumable items. So breaking the jar was a basic task.
When I changed my mind, I fell into the habit of trying to root without thinking.
‘It feels like going back to the first time.’
Fortunately, it was just a small jar, so Yeorika didn’t say anything.
She also had a subspace pocket, so she put all the stuff in the cabin into it.
‘Come to think of it, there is a main scenario for the game.’
Originally, the clearing condition for this game was to clear the main scenario.
Of course, in order to clear the main scenario, I had to do a lot of side quests and collect a lot of things that could be used during the main scenario.
‘There’s no need to do that this time.’
Ethan’s goal was not to save this continent.
‘The continent is open to anyone to save. There are so many heroes out there.’
That is, you just have to find your own way to live.
After taking everything out of the cabin, Yeorika took something out of a hidden place.
It was a shining ore like a star, and Ethan’s eyes lit up for a moment.
“Where did you get that?”
“This is something my grandfather left behind. He originally intended to leave it to my mother, but he ended up giving it to me. He said it would ward off evil. But in the end, this is what happened. It didn’t ward off any evil, and it didn’t protect me.”
At first it was a precious thing, but as time passed, only resentment built up.
Ethan asked cautiously.
“Are you going to throw it away?”
“Yes. Having it just makes me feel bad.”
“Then how about selling it to me?”
At Ethan’s words, Yereka narrowed her eyes.
“Actually, I don’t know what this shining ore is. But since it came out like that, it seems like it’s quite a valuable item. Do you happen to know what this ore is?”
There’s no way I wouldn’t know. The identity of that yellow ore that shines like a star.
Anyone who has ever been on a tour would know this.
“that.”
Ethan said in a serious voice.
“It’s gold.”
“Do not lie.”
She was quicker on the uptake than I thought.
* * *
Stats were a pretty important factor in Mepan.
Strength, stamina, agility, and intelligence.
The stats, which consist of four, could be increased when leveling up, but basically, you could not increase only the abilities you wanted.
‘My abilities increase depending on my actions.’
For example, if you want to increase your intelligence a lot, you can level up by reading a lot of books or practicing magic.
‘But that’s the item that will allow me to raise the stats I want.’
The yellow ore that Yeorika’s grandfather left behind was an artifact that could raise desired stats, and was called a stat stone.
It was so precious that Mephan users would rush to get their hands on it with their eyes set on fire.
‘At that size, it should rise by at least 30.’
30 was a huge number.
Each time you level up, your stats will increase by 1. Or, if you’ve trained a lot, they may increase by 2.
This meant that you could gain at least 30 levels of advantage with just one stat stone.
“To be honest, that’s a very precious ingredient.”
“You just said it was gold.”
“It means an ingredient as precious as gold.”
Despite Ethan’s words, she couldn’t hide her doubts.
But soon his expression softened.
I was going to throw it away anyway, and the other person was someone who said they would help me.
“Since you said you would release the ban on my body anyway, I will give you this in return. If you release the ban on my body, I will give this to you, Ethan.”
Yereka was actually curious.
In order to use yourself as a bodyguard, you must release the gold chains hanging from your body.
That way, you can use the knowledge in your head to cast the magic that your grandfather, who was a great wizard, used.
Yeerika has tried everything and worked hard continuously so far.
In order to survive and overcome those who were after my grandfather’s magic, I absolutely had to be able to use magic.
“Let’s do that.”
Ethan tried to suppress the corners of his mouth that were about to turn red and took the artifact.
‘I never would have guessed that this would be here.’
I’ve found smaller stat stones before, but never one this big.
‘What an unexpected benefit.’
“Please wait a little longer. I have more luggage.”
While she was packing up her things, Ethan stepped back and safely consumed the stat stone on the spot.
Ugh.
Although it looked like ore on the outside, it was still a kind of food that could be chewed and eaten.
-A powerful force is infused into your body!
-You can increase the power you want by choosing it!
Strength, stamina, agility, and intelligence.
There was only one thing Ethan needed right now.
‘health.’
It is the easiest stat to raise in the beginning, but once it exceeds a certain level, it is fixed and does not increase.
‘You can continue to raise other stats. If you keep honing your skills, they will continue to increase.’
But the stamina stats were different.
‘Physical strength is something that is literally innate. It has clear limitations.’
However, if you have a stat stone, you can completely break through that limitation.
‘If I raise my stamina stat with stat stones and break through, my original limit will increase significantly.’
A body weakened by a curse will return to its original state as stamina levels increase.
‘Your physical strength will be better than normal.’
Currently, I am not able to train for long.
However, if you raise your stamina above 30, you will be able to train longer than now and even fight.
-You can increase your stamina by ’31’.
-Would you like to upload it?
Ethan immediately invested his points into the Stamina stat.
Shaaaaak-!
In an instant, a golden wind blew across Ethan’s body.
-Greatly increases your chances of survival!
-The survival probability has reached the target value.
– Main Scenario [Surviving as Ethan Wickers] – Quest 1 has been cleared.
-You have received a new main quest.
-Main Scenario [Surviving as Ethan Wickers] -1 Clear Reward will be given!
“Quest cleared?”
Ethan quickly checked the sudden influx of notifications.
When you first become Ethan Wickers, there is only one quest in Ethan’s quest window.
The main scenario was [Surviving as Ethan Whikus].
“There was very little detailed explanation.”
The difficulty was hell. It was the highest difficulty level I knew of. Other than that, it was very abstract.
The message was to survive by any means necessary.
“So I just thought that was it. It turns out there was more to it.”
Ethan immediately opened the quest window.
-Quest Notification-
* Surviving as Ethan Wickers [Difficulty: Hell]
[You are the sickest person on the continent, and you can die if you blow on your back.]
[Surviving as Ethan Wickers.]
<
[Survival probability reached 10 percent!]
[Now I can tolerate it to some extent even after blowing.]
[But the threat of death still lurks. Get a job to survive.]
‘Continued quest.’
It was a quest that continued from Surviving as Ethan Wickers.
It seemed like a quest that would allow you to escape the threat of death a little more by increasing your basic survival chances.
‘What’s the reward?’
Ethan opened his eyes wide.
“oh.”
What I got was a title.
[Survival King]
All stats are adjusted as your survival chance increases.
<
‘What a crazy title.’
A tremendous effect that increases all stats by 5. But that’s not all.
‘All stats are adjusted as the survival probability increases?’
What that means is that although it is currently written as +5, the stat increase increases as the survival probability increases.
‘The more you try to live, the stronger you become.’
It was a huge reward. Ethan’s body felt strong.
Ethan shouted straight at Yereka.
“Have you packed all your bags?”
“Yes. I packed everything.”
“Then before we leave, let’s lift the ban right away.”
