#30
Helmut
Episode 30
“How about our 4th grade mercenaries, Helmut and Finn?”
Now I have enough time to make fun of myself.
“You’re both safe. No one approached the carriage. hey! “You can come out now.”
Helmut had just pulled himself out from under the carriage and stood up. But Finn didn’t want to come out.
‘Did you pass out downstairs?’
As I was thinking, a small cry came from below.
“Helmut!”
When I looked inside, I saw Finn, who was crouching, holding out his hand with a white face.
“Helmut, hey, I have a cramp in my leg. Please pull me out. hurry.”
“… … .”
Helmut did not bother to hide his pitiful expression. A pin came out from under the carriage and knocked on my leg.
“Oh, I thought my legs were going numb.”
Helmut was sure that if he had left and a monster had come under the carriage, Finn would have died holding his leg instead of fighting.
Uter, whose arm was wrapped in bandages, giggled and spoke.
“You were hiding comfortably under that carriage, but your face looks like you’ve been fighting for ten hours?”
“Oh, stop teasing me!”
Finn, who shouted loudly, soon became discouraged and kept his mouth shut.
He was shocked and dispirited as he watched the third-level mercenaries, who seemed to be just lounging around in the mercenary group, fighting in unison against the fearsome monsters.
Uther turned his sights to Helmut.
“Helmut, what do you think? Does it look like something worth doing? Do you want to fight too?”
“I can fight too.”
Helmut expressed calmly. First of all, since he was a level 4 mercenary, it was right to follow Tanya’s words, but this would not be the end of the attack.
Those monkey monsters, intelligent monsters, have characteristics similar to humans. They have a desire for revenge and cannot endure one-sided losses.
‘Just seeing it once is enough.’
It ended while I was contemplating whether to go out or not.
“Oh, if you get hurt, you’ll just be a burden. “You’ve never dealt with a monster before.”
Helmut, who was about to casually reply that he had dealt with more people than Uter, kept his mouth shut.
‘That damn amnesia.’
“Still, I’m not discouraged. Yes, a mercenary must have guts! “As you do it, you get used to it.”
Uter seemed to be in a good mood, perhaps because he had overcome one crisis well. As everyone in the Face Mercenaries gathered together, Puen gave instructions.
“Okay, everyone fought well. Let’s inspect the carriage and retrieve the body. “It will be quite a bit of money.”
Helmut asked Finn.
“Let’s collect the body? “Does it make money?”
“Because the corpses of monsters are worth more money than ordinary game. “Still, I’m glad there were no casualties on our side.”
The mercenaries took out hatchets and daggers and took the lead in rummaging through the corpses of fallen monsters.
You can make money by collecting skin or teeth and selling them. It is used as an experiment material for wizards or to make weapons.
The harvest thus obtained was collected by the Butan Chamber of Commerce, but mercenaries were given their share of about 70%.
Before we knew it, the merchants had gotten off the carriage and were measuring the value of the corpse brought by the mercenaries.
“Watch carefully and learn.”
Maros, who beckoned Helmut and Finn, cut the monster’s body open with skill and peeled off the skin from the healthy parts.
They pulled out each tooth and sharp claws, and carefully dug around to see if there was any place that could make money. I wouldn’t say monsters are cruel.
“This guy’s eye color is unusual? “Is it going to make money?”
“It may be valuable as a collectible, but it’s hard to preserve eyeballs, right? “Just leave it alone.”
The mercenaries especially carefully disassembled the core of the monster, which humans call the sprout of darkness, and gathered it together. Helmut’s eyes slightly wavered.
“The priests may not like it, but this is the most profitable.”
“There is no one with a healthy nucleus. “I told you to step aside and stab me!”
“It’s so hard that I’m going to die, so can I go into all of that?”
Finn looked at the third-level mercenaries who were chatting and working with an expression of boredom. Tanya, who was working, gestured to Finn and Helmut.
“There’s a guy over there. “You two should work together.”
Finn moved towards the body he had pointed out with an anxious face. It was the same with Helmut. But as I got closer, I suddenly felt a strange feeling.
“pin.”
“why? Are you scared? “I said it’s okay.”
Finn pretended to be strong and triumphantly reached for the corpse. At that moment, Magi suddenly stood up.
He had a habit of pretending to be dead. When I tried to touch it, it revealed its true colors.
-Kyaaak!
The movement was quick as it bared its teeth and lunged for the neck. Tanya, who was watching them, shouted urgently.
“pin!”
“Ugh!”
Finn rolled to the side and narrowly avoided being bitten on the neck. The guy who landed on the spot where Finn was standing found Helmut standing right in front of him.
It looks like a slightly larger monkey, but it is still a monster. It jumped towards Helmut, baring its teeth.
Helmut’s eyes were extremely calm as he watched the scene. The sword was pulled out of his grasp like a beam of light.
Helmut’s sword cut down the guy in a diagonal line without hesitation.
-Sigh!
‘What… … . ‘What did I see?’
Tanya’s eyes widened. Her sword was so fast that its trajectory was invisible.
Helmut spoke in an unimpressed tone as he kicked away the monster that was neatly split in two.
“It looks like he’s dead.”
“Yes, yes.”
“Oh, I guess they cut it down to the core. “It wouldn’t make any money.”
Did they split it in two for no reason? Helmut repeated regretfully. Finn, who had fallen, got up awkwardly.
“What, what happened? “Did you do it?”
‘This guy… … .’
Tanya was looking at Helmut with perplexed eyes. Her eyes seemed to be looking at something unfamiliar and strange.
Helmut instinctively made an excuse as he put the sword in his hand into his waistband.
“I think this sword is good. “It tastes good.”
Since Darian did not like decorations, no one had properly examined the sword in its shabby scabbard. But now I see that the light on the blade is unusual.
Tanya nodded.
“That’s right, I guess he was a little sluggish because he passed out.”
Finn also seemed to have no thoughts. He stood up and tapped Helmut on the shoulder.
“Hey Helmut, thank you. I survived thanks to you! “I’ll serve you a bowl of soup later!”
Finn was in charge of cooking. And he was a pretty good cook too.
“What, was there anyone alive?”
“You got rid of it?”
Soon the mercenaries were snooping around, asking what had happened. But no one really saw it. The matter seemed to have come to an end.
*
That night, the group left the place where the bloody fight took place and stopped only late at night.
You don’t know when that monkey monster will attack again, so you have to get out of this forest as quickly as possible. Because there was such an agreement, everyone was in a hurry, even though it was unreasonable.
It was a forest where the path had not been properly cleared. They cut down trees, created a place to camp, lit a bonfire, and had a meal.
The area was quiet, with only the occasional sound of insects chirping and birds chirping.
If a monster exuding demonic energy was nearby, even the grass bugs would suffocate, so it was safe to worry for now.
“The sentries will be divided into two and stand in three shifts. Helmut and Tanya, Finn and Maros, Sean and Bern. Uter is injured and will be out.”
Fuen, a second-class mercenary and the leader of the mercenary group, does not stand guard.
Puyen warned that there was still a risk of attack, so we should not think about standing guard loosely. Sean grumbled.
“Gosh, I should have scratched my arm too. “Sleep comfortably.”
“Are you jealous? “Would you like me to naturally scratch it with a knife?”
“Stop it. “Aren’t you tired?”
The mercenaries, who were chatting cheerfully, had a shorter conversation than usual and went to bed. Everyone fell asleep in an instant.
I don’t know what tomorrow will bring, so I need to fall asleep quickly and get some rest. The sound of snoring echoed and time passed slowly.
Since they do not count the number of people individually, you can sneak out when there is no guard.
Helmut waited calmly. Every night, he had become accustomed to secretly going out and returning to practice Vis. At most, it’s an hour or two. He only practiced basic movements in front of others.
“It’s time, sleep well.”
With those words, Tanya, who was struggling to open her sleepy eyes, went to bed first.
“Then let’s give it a chance.”
A cold smile crossed Helmut’s lips. He did not forget his goal.
Helmut got up from his seat and moved slowly. It was a route close to Tariq’s mercenary group.
A quick glance revealed that Kelob was still awake. He surprisingly slept little and was diligent. He did this especially when it came to tormenting Finn and Helmut.
A night when everyone is exhausted from clearing out monsters. It was also a time when their guard against Kelop was relaxed, wondering if they would bother a level 4 mercenary when there were casualties within their own mercenary group.
Tired was a word that did not apply to Helmut and Kelop. Kelop just watched from under the carriage under the pretext of protecting the 4th grade mercenaries, and Helmut did the same.
Helmut walked into the nearby forest. I felt Kelob chasing after me.
I thought that the monster might have caused my liver to become smaller and not follow me, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
Although it did its best to hide its presence, it was unable to completely silence the sound of its footsteps due to its large size.
Helmut stopped when he felt he was far enough away from the group. Standing in the clearing, he pretended not to notice and placed his hand on his sword. As if he was about to start training.
– Rustle, rustle.
Kelop appeared, blatantly making footsteps. A grin filled his face.
“Hey, kid! Is it dangerous to come into a place like this alone? “It’s dangerous.”
“… … .”
“We have to finish talking about what we couldn’t say before.”
Kelop planned to beat and scold that expressionless face until it cried and its nose bleed. The humiliation of being kicked out by Tanya has not yet gone away.
‘Is it frozen?’
Helmut didn’t move. Kelob walked up to him and made a grim face.
“You should have taken care of it! There’s no one to help you in a place like this! “It’s not okay to hide under a girl’s skirt.”
Only then did Helmut’s mouth open.
“I thought you would follow me.”
“what?”
Kelob’s eyes widened. Helmut’s eyes were as still as the night. I felt an intimidating feeling oppressing my black pupils. Kelop couldn’t believe it.
‘Why am I to this guy… … !’
“It’s so obvious, it makes me sigh.”
This is a good place to dispose of Kelop. If something goes wrong in a place like this, no one will suspect level 4 mercenary Helmut.
I walked away from the group and was attacked by a monster. Everyone will think that much.
Kelop came to his senses. It’s a pointless maneuver. There’s no way this little guy could deal with him, right?
If that were the case, I wouldn’t have been suffering all this time.
“what? “Has this bastard really lost his cowardice?”
Kelob threw his hands up. He wasn’t going to slap him, he was going to hit him on the head with his pot-lid-sized hand.
However, the hand that was about to strike stopped in midair. White knuckles were holding his wrist.
I think I grabbed it lightly, but I can’t move it as if I’m holding on to my middle leg. Cold sweat broke out on Kelob’s forehead.
“You must be the one who is not afraid. “Or stupid.”
“this person… … .”
“Maybe both?”
It would be better to pluck out the eyeballs that do not recognize the other person. I wonder if anyone recognized the knight Helmut.
Helmut kindly put his hand down. And he put his hand on Kelob’s shoulder.
The moment force was applied, an irresistible pressure was applied.
“Ugh!”
With a groan, Kelob’s knees were bent helplessly and hit the floor.
thud! Kelop couldn’t believe what was happening.
‘What the hell is going on?’
