Helmut: The Forsaken Child Chapter 27

#27

Helmut

Episode 27

When they reached a place where several wagons were lined up, Puen went straight to Miles and reported.

The third-level mercenaries of the Face Mercenary Group were each guessing where they should stand.

It had already been agreed the night before that Tariq’s mercenaries would be in charge of the front and the Faith mercenaries would be deployed in the back.

The awkward Finn and Helmut were scheduled to follow behind.

Request for convoy. Something that needs to be protected and moved. Protecting something is unfamiliar to Helmut. Whether it’s a person or an object.

In the Forest of Pahe, the only thing Helmut had to protect was himself. Because he had nothing and he was the weakest.

‘It seems like something worth trying to steal.’

Helmut understood that much. It was a secret request where he did not know what was being moved.

Only Miles and the mercenary group’s representatives knew the detailed travel route and destination. This was to ensure strict confidentiality.

Details will be relayed to the level 3 mercenaries after leaving the village.

It could be guessed from the fact that the double-digit number of mercenaries were hired that the road would not be smooth.

Tariq’s mercenary group had more than twice as many people as this side.

Tariq’s mercenaries looked at us with disapproval or showed signs of wariness. There was no overt expression of hostility there either.

Butan Trading Company is a large trading company. There is a high-ranking person in charge named Miles, so there will be no conflict in front of him.

But it was more than a story about a third-level mercenary who had to be faithful to the request. There were four messengers, or fourth-grade mercenaries, brought in from Tariq’s mercenary group.

It wasn’t just that there were more than twice as many people, making it four people. Usually, only one or two errand boys are included. They sold everything they had to the point that Miles was embarrassed.

One of them was a level 3 mercenary, but he said he was treated as level 4 because he was receiving treatment for a broken arm.

The mercenary, Kelop, said, ‘I don’t have a body that deserves to be treated as level 4, but I have no choice but to do this because of my injury. He showed an attitude of ‘I’m not in the same class as you!’

And, as usual, he was hostile toward Finn and Helmut from the beginning, perhaps because he felt sorry for the Face mercenaries. He accidentally made eye contact with Finn and screamed.

“Why are you looking at me like that? Kid, do you know how to use a sword?”

Finn looked offended, but kept his mouth shut. Kelop sneered at him as he passed by.

“You coward, just follow me from behind.”

It was a blatant fight. This time Kelop turned his target to Helmut.

“Is that a girl behind there? Even if you have a good stain, don’t you have to wear a skirt?”

Helmut neatly ignored him. He wasn’t even a strong person worth looking at.

“Ugh! “There’s everything like that!”

As soon as he reached a place out of sight, Finn kicked the stone on the floor and groaned.

“If only it weren’t for what the real Puen said!”

“don’t mind.”

Helmut recited the words he had learned from others in these situations.

“Aren’t you even angry? “You called me a weakling and you glared at me like that!”

In fact, Helmut didn’t mind being told that he was as pretty as a girl. I guess so. I didn’t even know why that was an issue that made me feel bad.

However, calling yourself a weakling or calling yourself weak is different. It was an intolerable insult and an accusation that could never be acknowledged.

When he remembered Elaga, who had attacked him with a wooden sword, knocked him over with his tail and looked at him with a sneer, he gained strength.

Helmut said, trying to suppress his anger.

“I told you to ignore it. “Are you planning on causing an accident from the first request?”

“Okay, I got it.”

As if he agreed, Finn’s momentum subsided. In fact, he didn’t have the guts to attack Kelop, a level 3 mercenary. All I can do is just go away.

Soon the group departed, and Helmut was lost in other thoughts.

As I started using Vis, I could detect the presence of people around me more clearly. What felt blurry before has become clear.

Helmut habitually measured his opponent’s strength. Movement, gait, posture, possession of vis.

That was a monster habit that Helmut had naturally acquired. You need to know how strong your opponent is so you can decide whether to fight or not.

‘Certainly humans are different from monsters. ‘He can hide his strength.’

The monsters spewed out their magical energy. On the other hand, vis is a force that flows inward.

If Helmut’s bis was perfect, measuring it would have been easy, but that’s not the case now.

However, I could vaguely feel the comparative advantage. I don’t know if it was the aftereffects of the injury, but the person who started the argument seemed to be the weakest among third-grade mercenaries.

‘It certainly seems weaker than Tanya.’

Since I am currently in a situation where I cannot guarantee that I will win even if I fight Finn, the answer is to ignore him.

However, seeing so many mercenaries gathered together made me more aggressive. The air was clearly stiff and tense.

Mercenaries are people who make a living through military force. Some of them use other weapons such as hammers or short swords, but most of them use swords.

I wanted to join in as soon as my body recovered. He wanted to test the sword he had learned in the human world.

‘Even with Puen.’

Of all the humans I’ve met so far, I think he’s the strongest. Even more so than the second-class mercenary who came as a representative of Tariq’s mercenary group that I only saw in passing.

‘Ten days.’

Helmut muttered as if he was pledging to take the time he needed. After that, he planned to show off his skills.

It was a peaceful journey for a few days. Peace meant boredom to some.

“It’s so annoyingly boring.”

Kelob spat as he walked. The boys, who were level 4 mercenaries, looked around him.

Kelob’s older brother was a second-class mercenary in Tariq’s mercenary group. Following his older brother, he joined Tariq’s mercenary group and has managed to function well as a third-level mercenary.

His impatient and dirty temper often caused him anger, but he was able to avoid expulsion due to Hyeongdeok being a second-class mercenary.

Kelop had one bad habit. It is a habit to rush to the gambling house after drinking alcohol.

This time, while heavily drunk, he got into a fight at a gambling house and broke his arm.

His older brother made him participate in this mission by hurling all sorts of insults at him. He was a level 4 mercenary, so asking him to do errands was practically a punishment.

Kelop, who was protesting, received final notice from his brother.

‘If you cause an accident, you’ll be kicked out of the mercenary group!’

“Damn it! “What are you saying?”

Kelob ground his teeth. However, I know that if it were not for his older brother, Tariq’s mercenary group would not accept him because he has no special skills and a bad attitude.

If you are kicked out, you will have to live by accepting difficult and dangerous requests while receiving only pitiful amounts of money.

There wasn’t much to do here with a broken arm. The reason he started arguing with the young members of the Face Mercenaries was because he felt itchy because he had nothing to do. He was also a worthy opponent.

Tariq’s mercenary group tacitly let Kelob fight with them or not.

The Face Mercenaries, who received more money for the same request and had a higher reputation, were a thorn in their eyes.

He’s not even a level 3 mercenary, he’s just messing with an errand boy. It’s not like I’m beating them to dust.

The two mercenary groups were separate from each other, guarding the front and back of the procession, but they often encountered each other when taking a break.

The errand boys often had overlapping destinations, such as going to the water to fetch water or going into the forest to get horse feed or firewood.

Kelop did not miss the opportunity. Finn’s reaction is that he trembles indignantly every time he steps on someone passing by or swears sarcastically. The boredom went away and I felt pleasure.

‘It’s a topic that I can’t even attack.’

Even though his arm was broken, he was still a level 3 mercenary. The difference between level 3 and level 4 was bigger than I thought. A fourteen-year-old child can play with one hand.

Finn’s reaction satisfied Kelop, but the story of the other boy accompanying him was different.

At first, I thought he was the child of some noble family because he was so handsome and had white skin.

He looks awkward even being called a mercenary, let alone a level 4 mercenary.

‘Your name is Helmut? The name is so classy as hell. I ended up playing an instrument in some kind of ballroom. In fact, there is no way that a child from a noble family would be neither an apprentice knight nor a level 4 mercenary.’

Kelop, who was having a hard time, tried to provoke Helmut to his heart’s content.

However, the other person didn’t seem to listen even when I started arguing about whether she looked like a girl, was pretty, or should have received some flowers.

Helmut passed by him with an expressionless face without even giving him a glance. He felt like he was chasing after a girl who wasn’t even looking. Kelop became more and more intoxicated.

‘This bastard is ignoring me?’

Unlike the clumsy guy Finn, the guy Helmut didn’t allow distance like a ghost even if you hit him properly and hit him hard.

‘Then there is a way.’

Kelop grinned. He was a man whose brain worked only when he was doing bad things. He seemed to know how to distort the expressionless face of that girl who was escaping like a rat.

“Guys, you guys need to help me later. “I’ll show you a nice sight.”

Anyway, he’s from the Face Mercenaries. What happens if you touch it? It was enough for Kelob’s anger not to return to them.

The other three rank 4 mercenaries smiled servilely and agreed with him.

*

That night, the group went to rest in the forest. It is common to fall asleep on the road like this when performing convoy missions.

Finn shouted.

“Ah-oh! “I’m really going to throw away the vase.”

Helmut remained silent because he felt like he would get angry if he told him to hold back.

In fact, Helmut was also slowly being stimulated. It wasn’t at the limit, but it was annoying.

Ignore it. Avoid. It would have been simple, but it was not easy. Why do I have to be patient with someone who approaches me with hostility? It’s also a weaker opponent than you.

Of course, I wasn’t sure about that yet, but it didn’t look like I was going to lose.

Helmut’s preferred method is to crush them and silence them.

“Isn’t it too harsh? “That bastard named Kelop, is he really too old to do anything?”

“It seemed like there was nothing to do.”

Even though I was an errand boy, I felt like I was just having fun while making everyone around me do the work.

“Can’t I do something about this? Just the other three would be enough, but there’s a third-grade mercenary sandwiched between the fourth-grade mercenaries. “Isn’t this a foul?”

Finn frowned, as if he couldn’t help but complain.

This is not a situation to report on. As the group headed towards an increasingly dangerous place, tension appeared on the faces of Fuen and other mercenaries.

There are monsters in the human world too. The only reason the monster did not appear outside the barrier where Helmut had fallen was because it was close to the barrier.

Although it is not as powerful as in Pahe Forest and appears less frequently, it is not uncommon for monsters to attack people along the way. But they were easier to deal with.

The more threatening enemy in the human world is humans.

In order to avoid humans who never knew when or how to attack, Miles chose a path full of monsters.

Many mercenaries were also hired. Those mercenaries will be needed soon.

A mercenary is a job that requires you to risk your life. At a time like this, when a life-threatening situation is approaching, asking for help over an argument is just foolish.

Although he was level 4, Finn was also a mercenary and he knew that much.

“Hey, if you go to fetch water, we’ll start fighting again.”

Even while grumbling, Finn grabbed the water bottle. He thought that if he had to pay it anyway, it would be better to pay it quickly.

But this time it didn’t end as easily as before.
