Chapter 4 – Seong-Gon

A night when the moon is so bright that you can’t see the stars.

Cordelia, sitting under the dark blue night sky, spoke with a face as beautiful as an angel.

“Fuck, fuck, fuck.”

“Excessive profanity will result in sanctions.”

“What is that crazy guy talking about?”

“Yeah, this is an exclamation. Anyway, decide quickly.”

Cordelia wasn’t the only one who sat under the fantastic moonlight.

Deep in the mountains.

The two people were facing each other in a place where they could hear the sound of the stream water trickling down.

Cordelia said, her shoulders slumping as if she was about to cry.

“Hey, do we really have to do this?”

“I have to do it. I have to do it.”

Because Cordelia’s main scenario was harsh from the start.

In order to not only disrupt but also completely defend against the Devil’s Hand’s attack on the fellowship, a holy relic with powers that are at odds with those of the demons – the Holy Staff Moonlight – was needed.

“Yellow Storm.”

“why.”

When Yellow Storm answered listlessly, Yuder coughed once and took a step forward. He placed both hands on Yellow Storm’s shoulders and spoke with a serious face and voice.

“Only you can do this. Only you can do this.”

“···Even if you say it nicely, the essence is still the same?”

“Hey, if you don’t like it, then don’t. Is this my event? It’s your event.”

Because the event to obtain Seonggon was exclusive to Cordelia.

“Fuck, I really hate the production staff.”

Cordelia was swearing again, but her momentum seemed to have died down, so it seemed she had given up on resisting.

Uther let out a sigh of mixed emotions and patted Cordelia on the shoulder again.

“If we’re going to do it, let’s get ready quickly. We don’t have much time. We did our best, but we couldn’t miss the timing and the event would be cancelled, right?”

“Haa······ I’d rather die than suffer. Okay, I’ll do it. I’ll do it perfectly.”

“Yes, this is our Yellow Storm.”

Yuder smiled brightly and gave a thumbs up, then took a step back and looked at the night sky again.

It all started two days ago, on the road to Langeste, when an incident occurred.

&

A day after leaving Count Bayer’s house.

Since the schedule was generous to begin with, the group did not rush.

We proceeded leisurely, letting the horses rest, but whenever we stopped at a place to rest, Maia and Dahlia would always go outside the carriage to rest.

It was partly to get out of the stuffy carriage and get some fresh air, but more than that, it was to give Uther and Cordelia some alone time.

“What can I say, aren’t we really considerate?”

“You’re a really great pair. I just want to cheer you on.”

Maia smiled and responded to Dahlia’s self-praise.

Because the hearts of both people were the same.

The promise to come out whenever the carriage stopped and make time for the two of them wasn’t even discussed in advance.

It was a natural result of the consideration of the maid and the bodyguard who thought of their master.

Dahlia, sitting in the shade of a tree and accepting the teacup offered by Maia, continued speaking with a smile.

“You were originally a good-looking man and woman, so you got along well, but… you suddenly became really close last month, didn’t you?”

“Yes, especially after the weekly getaway… no, after you two spent some time together.”

“Ha, I’m just saying this here, but… The young lady got sick a while ago. I was really worried, but I guess it was just a bad luck charm for something good to happen.”

“Oh my, you too, Miss?”

When Maya blinked in surprise, Dahlia exclaimed, “Ah!”

“Come to think of it, you weren’t feeling well at that time either, right?”

“Yes, a little······.”

In fact, it wasn’t just nonsense and chaos, but even though he was the bodyguard of his fiancée – no, rather, it wasn’t something he could reveal because he was in that position.

And it was the same with Dahlia.

When Cordelia was sick a month ago, she not only talked nonsense, but also swore so ferociously that everyone who heard her was shocked.

‘What was it really like back then······.’

It’s so strange that such vulgar curses are pouring out from the mouth of such a pretty girl as a doll.

It was truly a sight I never want to see again.

“Still, it went really well. Your Majesty is getting better, and we are even having a get-together like this.”

“Yes, that’s right.”

The maid and the bodyguard looked at each other and laughed, then looked back at the carriage.

What kind of conversation are the two people inside there having?

Just imagining these two people brings a cute smile to my face, so I’m sure they’re sharing sweet words of love, right?

“Hey, let’s do n-bread as humans?”

“Hey, why are you n-breading something that my father gave me?”

“Because it was money my father gave me to buy me something delicious.”

“Okay, I’ll budget appropriately and buy you something delicious.”

Cordelia and Uther, who were having a pointless conversation about the bag of money that Count Chase had given them just before leaving on their trip, stretched without saying a word.

It was a comfortable ride even though it was running on the road because it was a magical carriage, but it was stuffy because it was always inside.

‘But it’s better than pretending to be engaged in front of everyone.’

Even though it was a little stuffy, it was much more comfortable and better for the two of us to be like this.

“Anyway… let’s start having a productive conversation now.”

“What? Like future plans?”

“Uh, schedule. Especially··· whether or not what’s going to happen will actually happen···.”

One month after awakening the memories of Outboxer 009.

Uder has already confirmed several times that this world is almost identical to Hero Chronicles 2.

But what we have confirmed so far is only the elements that make up the world.

These are things that simply exist, like people, terrain, history, or objects.

‘Will the story itself proceed exactly like Hero Chronicles 2?’

Of course, even if it did proceed, it would only be in the beginning.

If Uther and Cordelia got involved in this and that, the story itself would have changed due to the butterfly effect.

But even so, it had a tremendous meaning that ‘what’s meant to happen happens’.

“First of all, our departure date is almost the same as Cordelia’s departure date in the original.”

“If it goes exactly like the game······.”

“The road I’m on now is blocked because the bridge ahead of me collapsed.”

In the original, there were two choices.

Either take a detour and take the mountain path, or go south and find a boat to cross the river.

This was the first easy multiple choice question you encountered in Cordelia’s main scenario.

And most of the old people chose the detour route along the mountain path here.

“So that I can perform hidden events.”

“Ugh.”

Cordelia made a slightly disgusted expression when Uther said that.

It was because of the content of the hidden event.

But that was just then.

“Your Majesty, I have something to tell you. Would you mind for a moment?”

The young knight’s voice was heard from outside the carriage.

The knight named ‘Jun’ was assigned by Count Bayer as his escort for this trip, and he was a man who had made considerable contributions during this expedition, which was his first time participating.

“Yes, it’s okay.”

“Excuse me for a moment.”

As Yuder responded, Jun opened the carriage door.

He looked at Uther and Cordelia, who were sitting quietly facing each other, for a moment, then looked back at Uther and continued speaking.

“I asked people who were using the road and they said the bridge collapsed and the road was blocked. It looks like we’ll have to take a detour.”

‘also.’

What was meant to happen happened.

Uther glanced back at Cordelia, who frowned and nodded.

“Okay. So are you going to take the mountain path?”

“Yes, you know the local geography.”

“Since it was my first trip, I did some advance study.”

“Ah… indeed. Yes, I plan to use the mountain path as you said. It might be a day late, but… for now, it seems like the best option.”

“Let’s do that. There’s quite a bit of leeway in the schedule to begin with, so I think it would be better not to rush.”

“Thank you for your understanding.”

When Yuder came out in a polite and kind manner, Jun’s face, which had been quite stiff at first, relaxed.

It seemed like Yuder liked it.

“Then I will ask for your help.”

“Okay, I understand. We’re going to take a different route than planned, but I’ll make sure that both of you are safe.”

Jun declared confidently as a knight and bowed to Uder and Cordelia again before closing the carriage door.

And right after that.

Uther said to Cordelia.

“You’re awake.”

Just like in the game, the road was blocked and I had to take a detour.

The significance of this incident was quite large, but locally speaking, it was the first step toward establishing the basic conditions for carrying out a hidden event.

Cordelia said, her shoulders slumping.

“Hey, by the way.”

“uh.”

“In the game, when you go to a certain area on a mountain path, an event automatically occurs, right?”

“It doesn’t happen.”

“But even if you go to a specific area here, the event won’t happen automatically, right?”

“Of course that won’t happen.”

Hero Chronicles 2 was a game with a very high degree of freedom, but it ultimately belonged to the category of ‘story RPG’.

That is, when a certain event occurs, the characters are free from the players’ control and perform certain actions.

But in reality, it was a different story.

There was no way that I would suddenly start moving on my own and reciting set lines just because I went to a certain area.

‘If there is, then that is a problem in its own right.’

In any case, the important thing was to trigger the event.

So what should we do?

How can I trigger the events that happened in the game and get the same rewards?

It was actually a simple story.

Both Uther and Cordelia already knew the answer.

“We need to recreate the event.”

As seen in Heroes Chronicle 2, you perform set actions in specific locations.

As if we were performing a play.

“Please give it a good performance, Yellow Storm.”

Uther winked and Cordelia raised her middle finger.

And two days later.

The promised time has finally arrived.

&

“Fuck, fuck, fuck.”

“Too much swearing······.”

“Fuck, fuck, fuck.”

“Yeah, I lost. If swearing makes me feel better and allows me to focus on acting, then that’s a good thing.”

Near a valley that you might pass by if you take the mountain path route.

Uder, who had been babbling nonsense with his back to Cordelia, opened the pocket watch he had received from Gale before leaving and checked the time.

‘The event starts at midnight.’

Dahlia’s night shift was from 11pm to 1am, and those two hours were the only time Uther and Cordelia could be alone together.

Maia was already off duty because she was a maid, and asking the other knights for some alone time would have been pointless.

‘The current time is 11:50.’

There were only 10 minutes left until the event started.

“Are you ready?”

“W-Wait a minute! If you turn around, I’ll kill you?”

“You’re already wearing clothes anyway.”

“Fuck. Okay, you can turn around.”

As soon as Cordelia gave permission, Uther turned around and let out an exclamation of admiration without realizing it.

“and.”

To be honest, I was surprised.

I knew it was pretty all along, but should I say I realized it again?

Before Uther’s eyes, Cordelia was standing barefoot, with her hair down, wearing only a large towel.

‘Of course I’m still wearing all my clothes under the towel.’

Anyway, what should I say?

Cordelia, standing naturally with her hair down under the fantastic moonlight, was not only beautiful but also mysterious.

“If you laugh, I’ll kill you. If you look away, I’ll kill you. If you keep looking at me, I’ll kill you.”

Of course, if you don’t open your mouth.

“Hey, then where the hell do you want me to look?”

“I don’t know, but anyway, we’re going to start now, so hide well. Okay?”

“Understood, ma’am.”

Finally, the two people exchanged glances, took a deep breath, and moved to their respective designated locations.

The event started like this.

Cordelia, who had been using the mountain path, discovers a valley during her journey and, avoiding people’s eyes, takes a bath in the valley around midnight to wash off the sweat.

‘What… should I call it a service event?’

Actually, there was a similar event for Uther.

Anyway, Cordelia, who was taking a bath, was so captivated by the beauty of the moonlight that she started singing······.

“Ah, the water is so damn cold. Are you crazy? Why would you go into the stream water in mid-autumn, let alone summer?”

Cordelia shivered as she dipped her feet into the water, and Uther, who was hiding in the bushes, sent a sign with a pitiful look on his face.

It was a sign to sing roughly.

“Oh, really. Cordelia seems completely crazy.”

Cordelia, who was criticizing herself but not herself, trembled and went into the water, then opened her lips and looked up at the moon.

In fact, at this point, I thought I knew why Cordelia sang.

Going into the wide stream alone in the dark of the night was extremely scary, even though I knew that Yuder was watching me.

Should I say that it felt like something was going to pop out of the water?

I felt like I couldn’t stand it unless I sang a song.

“Twinkle, twinkle, little star~ You shine so beautifully~”

As Cordelia began to sing timidly, Uther gave her another sign.

It was a signal to sing a song from the original, but Yellow Storm wasn’t Outboxer009. How was he supposed to memorize a song that was only briefly played at the event?

‘It seems like a song with some stars in it, so it should be fine.’

How long has it been since I continued singing while thinking like that?

Far beyond, beneath the moonlight of fantasy.

There were those who responded to the singing.
