Chapter 48 – Invitation
Three weeks since Gail and Adelia’s engagement.
Cordelia, sitting quietly at her desk, pouts.
And there’s a woman watching it.
Delia, Cordelia’s bodyguard and practically like her older sister, snickered and spoke as if passing by.
“Miss, miss. Are you mad?”
“No way?”
Cordelia answered reflexively, and Delia chuckled again.
“Don’t be like that. You’re crazy, right?”
“I said no?”
Cordelia replied with annoyance, and even snorted, but thanks to that, Delia was able to be sure.
‘You’re really crazy.’
With that sullen look on my face.
Delia glanced a little further away and looked at the paper Cordelia was scribbling on.
It was a piece of paper on which I had been writing formulas for studying magic, and there were small doodles scattered throughout the corners, and as expected, they were doodles about someone specific.
‘You idiot. You moron.’
Delia quickly raised her hand to cover her mouth at the scribbled words.
That’s because it really brought out my mother’s smile.
‘How can you be so cute?’
The reason Cordelia is upset.
It was simple and clear.
‘Because contact with Prince Yude suddenly disappeared.’
Has it been about three weeks already?
About five days after Adelia’s engagement, which had thrown everyone in the Chase Counts into a happy shock, a letter arrived with a gift, but there was no more correspondence since.
‘It’s also vulgar.’
No contact for almost two weeks.
‘I heard the reason roughly.’
After losing contact with Uther like a flower withers, day by day, Delia had been withering away – of course, if Cordelia had heard, she would have strongly denied it – and had already visited Count Bayer’s house once for Cordelia.
According to the explanation of Knight Jun, who had become close friends with Langestor during his journey, it was as follows.
“Your Majesty devotes himself to training with Count Bayer from early morning until late at night every day.”
In short, he said he was busy practicing every day.
“Well… then I guess there’s nothing I can do.”
“Yes, since the young master is very quick to learn… the count is also very enthusiastic.”
The fact that Yuder’s incompetence was extraordinary had already been proven through several incidents.
It was understandable why Count Bayer was rushing in with his eyes burning.
“The Count and Master Gale were both confident. Master Uder would become the strongest knight in the North.”
“oh······.”
The weight of the words spoken was different from that of a simple statement of not being able to sell.
Count Bayer.
One of the Northern Four Rivers and a member of the Ten Swordsmen, who holds the title of Sword Master.
Seeing him discussing the strongest, it seemed that Yuder’s talent was truly amazing.
‘Well, that’s a talent that even Iron Man Landius coveted.’
One of the five heroes of the Paragon Kingdom and a man who is always mentioned when discussing the strongest man on earth, was none other than Iron Man Landius.
Yuder was Landius’s disciple, and there was only one reason why Landius took Yuder as his disciple.
‘The Thousand and One Body.’
The incarnation of the heavenly being.
“Please··· take good care of Miss Cordelia. You are a great couple, but if something like this causes a rift······.”
“Yes, that won’t work. I’ll explain it to you, young lady.”
“thank you.”
Knight Jun breathed a sigh of relief as if it were his own business.
It seemed that he was deeply in love with the young master, Yuder.
‘That’s a good thing.’
Since Gale and Uther are on good terms, the Bayer Counts will run smoothly without any problems.
‘anyway.’
Delia stopped reminiscing and looked back at Cordelia in front of her.
He sat quietly in front of his desk and played with his pen, but as expected, his every little gesture was filled with irritation and dissatisfaction.
‘If you want to see me that much, you could have contacted me first.’
Or maybe you visit Count Bayer’s house once.
But Cordelia wasn’t doing that.
She puffed out her cheeks and pouty lips every day, but she never said she would contact me first.
‘It’s a honeymoon.’
Woohoo. You’re so cute.
I want to see you, I want to meet you, but I suppress my feelings and endure it.
But this was a bit of a disadvantageous push.
While Cordelia had plenty of time to think about Juder, Juder had no time to think about anything else thanks to his one-on-one training with Count Bayer.
‘So I guess I should lend a hand for the young lady.’
The reason I teased you and asked if you were particularly upset today was because I had something in mind.
“miss.”
“Why?”
“The letter has arrived.”
“Letter?!”
Cordelia jumped up from her seat, her cheeks slightly blushing, and she let out a cough.
“What’s so great about letters?”
She quickly sat back down and turned her back, but Delia could see the corners of Cordelia’s mouth slightly going up.
Aren’t you thinking something like, ‘Huh, I knew you’d come first.’
“Ahem, but you know, Delia.”
“Yes, Miss.”
“I’m not really curious, though.”
“Yes, Miss.”
“But you’re here anyway, right? So it would be polite for me to check, right?”
“Maybe?”
“Ahem, okay. So bring me the letter.”
Cordelia turned around very slowly and held out her hand as if she was not particularly interested, but there was something she could not hide: her eyes.
‘You’re getting impatient.’
Delia, suppressing a laugh, handed over a letter in a white envelope.
“Ahem.”
And then tak.
Cordelia snatched up the letter as if snatching it away, unfolded it with contradictory movements as slowly as possible – yet quickly – and soon frowned.
‘It can’t be helped.’
Because it wasn’t a letter from Yuder.
What arrived was an invitation from Count Pikers.
“Birthday party?”
“Yes, it’s a party to celebrate Miss Emma Pikes’ seventeenth birthday.”
“No, I know that too.”
It was natural for Cordelia to frown.
Because the Earls of Pikes, one of the twelve northern houses, were not on good terms with the Earls of Chase.
They weren’t close enough to fight, but they weren’t close enough to be on friendly terms either.
Moreover, Emma Pikus has always been a person who has had a strange sense of competition with Cordelia and often picks fights with her.
‘This is someone you’ve barely seen in the original.’
It’s not that there weren’t any related sub-quests, but since he only appeared once, he wasn’t a very memorable character.
But it was different for Cordelia Chase.
Last year, on Cordelia’s birthday, he called her and bragged about his fiancé.
‘Oh my, Prince Yude won’t be attending this time either? It’s such a shame, I’m so sad. It’s still a matter of time, but… There won’t be any problems with the wedding, right? I’m just worried because of health issues… Haha.’
That voice at that time. That look at that time.
Even before I found my memories of my past life – that is, back when I was much more docile than now – her behavior was so irritating, but after finding my memories of my past life, I was even angrier.
“Miss, this time you’re going to show me an example.”
“huh?”
“This time, Prince Yuder will be joining us.”
When Delia spoke with shining eyes, Cordelia blinked, not understanding right away, but only for a moment.
Cordelia’s eyes began to glow with determination and liveliness.
“I have to repay the humiliation! And using this as an excuse- no, I have to discuss this matter with Prince Yu De, so please go and visit him.”
This was the reason why Delia did not lose her smile even while delivering the invitation from Count Picus, which was sure to upset Cordelia.
An excuse for Cordelia to contact Uther first!
It’s not about going in with a heavy heart, but a means to plant in yourself the idea that it’s something you can’t avoid!
“You, to Yuder?”
“Yes, because it is something I need to discuss with Prince Yu. It is also an urgent matter.”
Emma Pikus’s birthday was in five days, so time wasn’t much.
It was the home of Count Pikes, which took a whole day to get to even by carriage.
Moreover, Cordelia had one more excuse.
‘Come to think of it, isn’t it about time?’
When the royal capital sent out an invitation to attend the 300th anniversary celebrations.
Emma Pikus’s birthday was a minor event that could have been ignored, but the founding of the nation was different.
This was the third task for a perfect happy ending.
“Yeah, yeah, that’s right. This is really important. So I need to discuss it with Yuder.”
As Cordelia spoke softly, as if to herself, Delia immediately followed suit.
“Yes, my lady. It is as you said. So let’s go to Count Bayer’s house. We will meet Prince Yuder.”
“Yeah, that’s right. I’m meeting with Yuder.”
“Okay, then let’s leave right now.”
“Huh? Right now?”
“Yes, now. Before it’s too late.”
In fact, it was Delia who had already sent a letter to Count Bayer informing him that she would visit him today.
“Now, just a moment.”
“Yes, yes, you should dress it up nicely. I’ll give you that much time.”
“That’s not it. I don’t really need to look pretty to Yuder.”
“Really?”
“That… ahem. But I guess I should at least follow the basics. There’s such a thing as manners.”
Cordelia muttered as if making an excuse and moved her body stealthily towards the mirror, and Delia smiled again.
And three hours later.
Count Bayer.
“Let’s stop here for today.”
“already?”
On the training ground.
At Gale’s words, Yuder sat on the floor, wiping away the sweat, and tilted his head as he asked back.
That would be the case, since it was much earlier than usual.
“Oh, already. I have some plans for today.”
“Did you get a letter from Sister-in-law Adelia?”
When Uder asked teasingly, Gale shook her head as if it was funny.
“Letters come every day. I write to them every day, too.”
“Yeah, yeah.”
Gail was Gail, but Adelia was also amazing.
‘It feels like the character itself has really changed.’
Who would have thought that Adelia, who was like a hedgehog in the original, would become such a young lady who fell so deeply in love?
‘It would be worth seeing during the national foundation ceremony.’
Frankly speaking, unlike Uderna and Cordelia, who could be said to be playing around at home, Adelia was a royal magician who had enemies in the royal magic corps.
He had taken a long vacation to catch Uther and Cordelia, but he still held the position of captain, so he had no choice but to return to the capital, even if he didn’t want to.
‘That’s why the engagement ceremony was rushed.’
However, Adelia was planning to retire soon and was not satisfied with just the engagement ceremony.
I heard that after this national foundation ceremony, he will step down from his position as leader and return to his hometown.
‘Because Brother Gayle must inherit the Bayer Counts.’
This was the conclusion reached because even if Adelia could come down to Bayrun, it was impossible for Gale to go to the royal capital.
‘You really do like it.’
Because he was so close to giving up his position as the commander of the Royal Magic Corps.
‘Anyway… sooner or later.’
The 300th anniversary celebration was about a month and twenty days away.
If the original story had followed suit, the invitation to the royal capital would have arrived within a week.
“Well, I think it’s about time you came. Go quickly and wash off the sweat first. It’s been a while, so you should show off your good looks.”
“Huh? What the heck have you been doing since just now······.”
That was it.
Yuder quickly turned around at the stabbing gaze he felt from behind, and was able to face them for the first time in a long time.
“Cordelia.”
A red-haired girl stands on a balcony overlooking the smokescreen in the distance, looking down at me.
“He said there was something urgent to discuss. It looks like an invitation to the Count Pikus’ birthday party has arrived.”
After hearing Gale’s explanation, Uder nodded.
In the original, Cordelia was not in Byrun at this point, so there were no events like birthday party invitations, but now that the situation has changed, it was natural for an event to occur.
So instead of questioning the Countess of Pikus, Uther simply looked at Cordelia and asked Gale in a small voice.
“But, brother.”
“Yeah, Aouya.”
“I guess I’m crazy?”
“Um… maybe?”
Gale and Uther looked at the girl on the balcony together, and the girl, Cordelia, turned around with a motion that made it seem like she could hear a snickering sound.
“Go quickly.”
“Yes, brother.”
Yuder smiled brightly, stood up from his seat, and hurried his steps.
&
‘Are you crazy?
‘No? I didn’t get upset at all?’
‘I think I’m crazy?’
‘No? I didn’t get upset at all?’
Sitting across the table from each other, Uther and Cordelia exchanged quick glances, and Maia and Delia smiled happily at their friendly appearance.
‘It suits you well, right?’
‘That’s right.’
The two people who were talking with their eyes each other got up and left the room.
It was to give Uther and Cordelia some alone time.
“Are you crazy?”
“I said no! There’s no way I’d get upset over not hearing from you for just sixteen days!”
“oh.”
Sixteen days.
You were even counting the days.
‘I’m satisfied.’
Uther smiled happily, and Cordelia was too busy having fun to realize what a mistake she had just made.
“Anyway, I’m sorry. I was so out of it because of training.”
“Huh, I said it was okay.”
“Then that’s good.”
Cordelia frowned for a moment as Uther brushed it off, but she couldn’t drag out the conversation now.
“So, is your training going well?”
When I asked in a slightly raspy voice without realizing it, Yuder nodded immediately.
“Uh. I’m training to further embody the power of the Nine Heavenly Swords and… learning the sword of Count Bayer – to be exact, the fighting method.”
“Hmm.”
I don’t really know what he was talking about, but it seemed like he was trying hard.
‘I guess there really was no other way.’
Should I forgive him after all?
‘No, it’s not something I should be forgiving in the first place.’
Because Cordelia herself has never been mad.
“Anyway, Cordelia, how are you?”
“me?”
“Oh, you weren’t just playing around, were you?”
“Of course. I trained so hard.”
Cordelia, who let out another gasp, stealthily took out the rolled-up sword from her waistband.
It seemed like he wanted to show off the results of his training.
‘But why the bombing line?’
No, it’s definitely a tool that requires training to use properly, and it’s also a tool that Uther himself gave me.
“Why? Do you miss me?”
When Cordelia asked in a quiet voice, Uther nodded immediately.
If I pretended not to notice up to this point, I could really get in trouble.
“Oh, I miss you. I miss you so much.”
“Ahem, well… if Yuder says so….”
There is nothing I cannot show you.
Cordelia, with the corners of her lips slightly raised, immediately picked up the detonator, but no matter what, she couldn’t use the detonator in the reception room.
So Uder lightly dissuaded Cordelia and said.
“Let’s put that aside for a moment because we have to go to the training ground to see it. Before that, I have something to show you.”
“Will you show me?”
“Oh, the reason you came today was because of the invitation from Count Pikus, right? And there’s also an invitation to the upcoming national foundation ceremony.”
“Yeah, that’s right.”
I had forgotten for a moment, but today’s visit was to discuss how to respond to the invitation of Count Pikus.
“I guess I’ll have to trample on it.”
She was a woman who not only picked on Cordelia every year, but also insulted her.
It was Yuder who had no intention of just letting it go.
“Hey, Yuder? We’re going to a birthday party right now, right? We’re not going to fight, are we?”
“Yeah, right. What about the fight? I’m just going to go and trample on you unilaterally.”
Cordelia frowned at Uther’s words, but somehow felt relieved, so she decided to leave it alone.
“And it’s a good thing. I can use it as a demonstration site to practice before using it in the royal capital.”
Cordelia tilted her head again at Uther’s words.
I couldn’t understand what he was talking about.
‘Oh, come to think of it······.’
Was it Langest?
It was said that Uder had a secret weapon he was preparing to exert influence in the royal capital.
“Right, that’s what I’m talking about.”
As if he had seen through Cordelia’s mind, Uther spoke immediately, and Cordelia decided not to think about it any further and just ask.
“So what is it?”
“This is it.”
Uther, smiling a little more wickedly than usual, placed the items he had prepared over the past three weeks on the table.
