Chapter 10 – Honeymoon

Ten hours before Cordelia’s letter was discovered in the guest room of Count Hresvelg.

Cordelia pouted her lips as she placed the letter on the bed.

“But there is something.”

“uh.”

“Why do I have to write it again?”

When I jumped off the side of the Velkain Mountains, when I said I wanted to go with Count Hresvelg, and now that it wasn’t even a love elopement – no, a runaway – but anyway, when the two of us escaped together.

“Well, that’s true.”

“Is that so?”

Cordelia asked with narrowed eyes. Her eyes clearly meant to be prepared unless there was a good reason.

Thanks to that, Yuder swallowed dry saliva without realizing it, but soon smiled slyly and said.

“Cordelia, imagine this in your head. There is a beaker full of ink, and a glass rod.”

“I imagined it.”

“Okay, now put the glass rod in the beaker and then take it out. What happens?”

“The glass rod… will turn black?”

Because you’ll get covered in ink.

“Right, then try putting it in again and taking it out. What happens?”

“It’ll still be dark, right?”

“That’s it.”

“What the… fuck?”

“No, a first offense is noticeable, but a third or fourth offense is….”

“If you just say it, it’s all right? If you just say it, it’s all right!”

An enraged Cordelia began to beat Uther’s back with her palm.

“Hey! It hurts! It really hurts!”

“You’re hitting me because it hurts? Huh?”

Cordelia, who had been hitting Uther hard, tried to kick his shins as well, but Uther was a little faster.

Bam!

The twenty-four steps of the whirlwind.

For a moment, it seemed as if a whirlwind was blowing, but then Yuder’s spirit became blurred, and Cordelia’s kick only struck the air.

“Hey! Are you dodging that fatally again? And with new technology at that?”

“If it hits, it really hurts?”

Cordelia was more savvy than I expected.

As Uther took a stance with a rather urgent expression on his face, Cordelia let out a deep sigh and placed both hands on her waist as she spoke.

“Anyway, I’m really going crazy.”

“But I’m getting used to it now… No, it’s not something you can get used to.”

As Uther began to shrink on his own, Cordelia took another deep breath and approached Uther and asked.

“Anyway, what are we going to do now?”

It didn’t end with simply leaving Count Hresvelg’s house.

There were many things to prepare before going to Frost Anvil.

And the Uther Cordelia knew was not a man who did things without a plan.

“First, we need to prepare. Taking precautions against the cold is one thing, but in order to safely leave Berdfolnir, we need a way to get over the walls, horses for the two of us to ride, and various travel items.”

It was a correct answer.

But there was a problem.

“I don’t have money.”

The money I brought from home was already spent on hiring wizards in Langest.

I also used up most of the money Count Chase gave me to buy various equipment when I left Langest.

Moreover, the problem wasn’t just money.

It was now midnight.

The only business that remained open after the sun set was Berdfolnir, an entertainment district where people could enjoy alcohol, gambling, and other pleasures.

But that didn’t mean I had time to wait until morning.

The time given to Uther and Cordelia was only a few hours.

“So, come closer.”

“Here we go again, again. There are only the two of us anyway.”

“Um… Still, it feels good.”

“Anyway.”

Cordelia grumbled something, but soon moved closer to Uther and put her ear close to his.

And after a while.

A bright smile spread across Cordelia’s face as she heard Uther’s words.

&

Mick was a professional conman.

His specialty is marriage fraud.

His natural beauty and his brilliant speech, acquired through years of training, made him ideal for seducing innocent girls and widows exhausted from loneliness.

And now he was lying on the ground, being trampled by the beautiful girl.

“How, how can I······ where I am?”

“If you talk to the victims of the scam – especially the red-haired Mary Belle – you’ll get some clues. About the neighborhood thugs who picked a fight with Mick the first time they met.

The local thug’s name is Big. You can meet him if you search the back alleys of Berdfolnir. If you beat him up, he’ll tell you an interesting story about Mick. Of course, that alone won’t tell you where Mick is.

Mick is a quick-witted guy. But he’s not completely broke. Marriage scammers don’t stay in one place for long, and Mick is a newcomer. Naturally, these guys need help from the locals to adapt to the city. Big is the guy who shows them how to contact the locals.

The local’s name is Karl. Karl, not Karl. Anyway, if you talk to Karl, he’ll tell you about Mick. Where he came from, where he is now. But if I go through all of that, it’ll take too long, so I just came here.”

It was a story that made me feel dizzy when I heard it.

And Cordelia said the same thing, with a confused expression.

“Yuderwiki is weird.”

“Anyway, the important thing is that you got caught.”

Uther, who had overheard Cordelia’s words, crouched down in front of Mick, who was lying on the floor with his head buried in the ground, and continued speaking.

“Once you capture Mick, you have two options. One is to put him in a cell, and the other is to continue a new chain quest. Berdfolnir is a bustling city, and as a bustling city, there are quite a few criminals, and one of them wants Mick. To be exact, as a gift to the leader of the Thieves’ Guild in Langest.”

“Wh… what?”

“Marybelle is the youngest sister of the leader of the Langest Thieves’ Guild.”

Mick’s handsome face turned pale at Uther’s bright smile, and Cordelia immediately cast a paralyzing spell and spoke.

“Uder.”

“huh?”

“You just wanted to do that, right?”

Listing in detail the process by which it was obtained.

“What… maybe it’s a habit?”

“hmm?”

“Anyway, we’ve caught it, so let’s go. We don’t have much time.”

Because we had to leave Berdfolnir before dawn at the latest.

“Okay, let’s go.”

To the lair of Fabian, one of Berdfolnir’s gangs.

The two people’s movements became a little faster.

&

Fabian was a successful transporter.

It could be seen as transporting anything that could be used for money, such as people, money, letters, drugs, dangerous goods, etc.

And now he was facing a peerless boy and a peerless girl who had appeared before him in their pajamas.

“So, you’re going to give me Mick as a gift?”

“Yes, Fabian.”

Yuder answered immediately, but his gaze was not on Fabian, but on his men who had been hastily summoned to Fabian’s living room – to be precise, on the blonde woman sitting by the window.

“Where are you looking······.”

“No, that’s fine. I think you already know.”

The blonde woman who spoke with a smile stood up from her seat, and at her gesture, the fake Fabian, a pot-bellied middle-aged man, bowed his head once and stepped back.

The real Fabian.

A blonde beauty in her mid-twenties.

Among the characters that appear in Berdfolnir, she was particularly pretty and very popular, but her beauty did not catch Juder’s eye.

‘Cordelia is much prettier.’

Juder, who had been comparing himself to Cordelia without realizing it, maintained a relaxed expression, and for some reason the real Fabian smiled bitterly and held out both his hands as he spoke.

“Okay, how do you know I’m the real Fabian?”

“It’s a cliche. And our wiki is kind of dope.”

When Cordelia, who was standing there trampling on Mick, spoke with a grin, Fabian narrowed his eyes as if he had no idea what she was talking about, then smiled back and spoke.

“Huh, we probably know you too? No, maybe we should call you precious people? You are the children of the 12 families.”

“Do you know us?”

It was a complete first time meeting Fabian.

Moreover, it was my first time coming to Berdfolnir.

When Cordelia asked in surprise, Fabian shrugged his shoulders and said.

“Uder Bayer and Cordelia Chase. A black-haired, green-eyed, peerless boy and a red-haired, peerless girl who can’t stand each other. When I saw them in person, they were even prettier than rumors said. Anyway, to be honest, wouldn’t it be weirder not to recognize them?”

If each of them had appeared one by one, I wouldn’t have been able to be sure.

But when a strikingly pretty boy and pretty girl appeared together, I couldn’t help but think of the two people from the rumor. Their hair and eye colors were also the same.

At first Cordelia was flattered by Fabian’s remark, but soon her face turned worried.

‘Hey, what should I do?’

It wasn’t that I was telling Fabian that my identity was revealed. The problem was that if the story was true, my identity would be revealed wherever I went.

In any case, it was a situation where I was running away in the middle of the night.

‘Don’t worry, I can disguise myself.’

Yuder replied with a look of surprise, then looked back at Fabian and continued speaking.

“Okay, it’ll be easier if we don’t reveal our identities to each other. Let’s just get on with it and not drag it out. I’ll hand over Mick, so give us what we want.”

“What do you and your majesty want?”

“A means of crossing the walls of Berdfolnir before dawn today, a horse to ride on, basic travel supplies, and a change of clothes for us to wear. As a transporter, you can do all of this, right?”

This was the reason why Uder chose ‘Marriage Scammer Mick’ among the many events in Berdfolnir.

Only Fabian, the transporter, could provide what Yuder wanted reliably and quickly.

“You can do it.”

“Then do it.”

“Well, fine. It’s not like the children of the 12 families are going to commit a crime and run away. Are you two going on a honeymoon trip or something?”

“No way?”

“uh.”

Cordelia and Juder gave conflicting answers at the same time, and Fabian burst out laughing.

“You’re cute.”

Fabian, who was looking back and forth between Cordelia’s blushing face and Juder’s coughing face, soon nodded again.

“Okay, I like it. The gift is solid. I’ll prepare it right away. Rather than getting into trouble with the children of the 12 families, it would be better to go into debt.”

“It’s not a debt, is it? It’s a transaction?”

“Then let’s call it friendship.”

When Cordelia objected, Fabian spoke cheerfully again, looked at her with eyes that were utterly loving, then turned to Juder and asked.

“Excuse me, you’re so lovely, but can I hug you just once?”

“I’m fine, but my child is biting.”

Cordelia growled at Uther’s sly reply as if asking what the hell he was talking about, and Fabian burst out laughing again.

“Oh, really. I like it so much. Is it better than the rumors?”

Cordelia asked with a displeased face when Fabian mentioned the rumor again.

“Hey, how on earth did that rumor get around?”

“A perfect lovebird couple who can’t stand each other and can’t stand to be apart? Oh, and there’s also a story that the young lady is much more proactive than the young master. Is that really true?”

Instead of answering, Cordelia looked at Uther with cold eyes, and Uther coughed in vain and spoke.

“Anyway, I wish you would hurry up and do it.”

“Okay, let’s get started right away.”

Things started to move quickly as Fabian clapped his hands and signaled to his subordinates.

In any case, it was Fabian and his men who were professionals.

“I will personally guide you.”

Berdfolnir was a trading city, and like most trading cities, its walls, except for the main gate, were quite weak in many places.

Fabian, who arrived at the outskirts of the city with Uther and Cordelia, escaped through a hole hidden between wooden crates.

“There’s only one horse, but it’s sturdy enough to carry two people. The luggage is filled with basic travel items such as sleeping bags, water bottles, and dishes. I’ve already filled it with food for three days.”

In front of a small hut outside the castle, there stood a large, saddled horse and Fabian’s men.

“I recommend that you sit in front.”

“why?”

When Cordelia, who was already wondering who should sit in front, asked curiously, Fabian answered with a big smile.

“It’s more romantic because you can hug the young master.”

“I’ll ride behind you.”

“Well, that’s good too. But you have to hug her tightly.”

“···Can you just get me one more horse?”

“It’s just a pun, so don’t get carried away.”

Yuder interrupted the conversation between the two and approached Fabian, saying:

“It was a deal, but I’m grateful that it was a good deal.”

“Because I think you and your maid will make good business partners.”

And in fact, as I said before, she had nothing good to gain by being at odds with the children of the 12 families.

But still, Juder liked Fabian, so he decided to do him a small favor.

“Fabian, come closer for a moment.”

“Is the young lady watching?”

“Stop talking nonsense.”

As Fabian smiled and brought his face closer, Yuder spoke in a small voice.

“Gilto is a traitor. He is working with Batu behind your back to strike you in the back of the head.”

Fabian’s eyes widened at Uder’s words.

Her eyes were filled with the question, “How?”, but Yuder didn’t bother to answer.

“Look into it. It will be just as I said.”

That was it. Uther quickly climbed onto his horse and held out his hand to Cordelia.

“Get in front.”

“joy.”

Cordelia, who had been excited for no reason, sat down in front of Uther, and Uther took hold of the reins.

As befitting children of noble birth, both Uther and Cordelia knew how to ride horses.

Of course, Yuder already knew how to ride a horse in his past life.

“Then I’ll go. May good luck always be with you.”

“Not muscle?”

Uther quickly started his horse, as if to drown out Cordelia’s small mutterings.

And Fabian, who had been standing there with a stiff face and looking at the two people, soon relaxed his expression.

“It’s really as the rumors say.”

They said we were a fantasy couple.

Fabian shrugged and ordered his men to follow Gilto.
